Mapping the curious heart - Curated by Maia kreisler - Key artworks from the Darebin Art Collection, 09 Jul 22 - 17 Sep 2022
Mapping the Curious Heart presents key works from the Darebin Art Collection alongside recent acquisitions. Curated by Maia Kreisler and exhibited at Bundoora Homestead Art Centre, the exhibition brings together the work of eight First Nations women with strong, culturally led practices. It offers a space for vital discussion around Australia as a colonised nation with an Aboriginal past, present, and future.
Spanning moving image, photography, glass, and painting, the artists explore urgent issues of our time—gender, climate change, and the enduring impacts of colonisation. Mapping the Curious Heart invites us to look to the Collection as a way to gather, map, and pin down our ideas through art—and to revisit and reflect on these stories over time.
The exhibition features Darebin Art Collection artists Hayley Millar Baker (Gunditjmara, Djabwurrung), Megan Cope (Quandamooka), Karla Dickens (Wiradjuri), Marlene Gilson (Wathaurung/Wadawurrung), Yhonnie Scarce (Kokatha/Nukunu), and Angela Tiatia (Samoa), alongside new acquisitions by Moorina Bonini (Yorta Yorta/Wurundjeri) and Deanne Gilson (Wadawurrung).
